Work back from the muhurtham. Makaram (roughly mid-January to mid-February) and Vrischikam (mid-November to mid-December) are Kerala's crowded wedding months, and a venue's good dates in them go first, so ask O by Tamara about your date as soon as the astrologer or the parish gives it. Dates in the quieter months, or on a weekday, usually stay open longer.

Kerala hotels rarely bill the banquet hall as a separate hire. The hall comes with a minimum guarantee instead: the number of plates the wedding must pay for. If a hall is set at 250 plates, meeting that number means the space effectively costs nothing, because the catering is the bill. Coming in under it — say 180 guests against a 250-plate floor — means paying the shortfall on the remaining 70. In practice that shortfall is usually open to negotiation rather than charged plate for plate at the full rate, and very few couples know to ask. Ask O by Tamara which model applies and what the minimum is per space, not for the property as a whole.

A sadya is not priced the way a buffet is. Depending on the property it is quoted per leaf served, per confirmed plate, or as a flat rate for a sitting regardless of who turns up — and the three produce noticeably different bills at the same guest count, because a sadya is served in sittings and the second sitting is rarely as full as the first. Ask O by Tamara which unit the quote is in, how many sittings are included, what the count is taken from, and by when it has to be confirmed. Ask the same question separately for the non-vegetarian menu if you are serving one, because the two are often contracted differently.

Auspicious times in Kerala often fall very early — a ceremony at half past five in the morning is ordinary, not unusual. That decides more than the alarm clock. It means the kitchen has been working through the night, the hall was dressed the previous evening, and breakfast for the whole party lands immediately after the ceremony rather than as a separate meal later. Ask O by Tamara whether an early muhurtham carries any additional staffing charge, what time the team can begin setting up the night before, and whether the room can be held from the previous evening. Settle it at the quote stage; it is much harder to renegotiate once the date is fixed against a time.

Properties differ and every model is legitimate: some are in-house only, some are open, and some allow outside vendors against a royalty or an access fee per plate or per event. Establish which applies at O by Tamara before you commit to a design, because it decides who is allowed to build it and what that costs. Ask for the policy in writing, including any fee, and check whether it differs between functions — the rule for the reception is not always the rule for the muhurtham.

On-site rooms are the scarcest thing at most Kerala venues, particularly on backwater properties where there is nothing within easy reach. They are allocated in different ways — held against a block, released by date, or bundled into a minimum commitment. With 148 rooms on the property, decide early who genuinely has to sleep on site, then ask how and when the block is confirmed, what happens to unclaimed rooms, and what the nearest alternatives are with their real drive times rather than their map distances.
