What the job actually is in Kerala

Kerala weddings are not long. What makes them hard to run is that they are dense and early: a muhurtham at twenty to six means hair and makeup at three, a hall dressed the previous evening, a kitchen working overnight, and breakfast for four hundred people immediately after the ceremony. The planning work is almost entirely front-loaded into decisions that are difficult to reverse — which venue, which model it bills on, which kitchen cooks, and who is allowed to build the decor.

So the sequence matters more than the checklist. The astrologer, the parish or the mahal gives you the date. The date decides which venues are even available, because Makaram and Vrischikam dates cluster and the good halls and the good cooks go a year out. The venue's charging model then decides how much of the budget you control: a day rental leaves the catering in your hands, a hotel plate rate does not. Everything else follows from those three.

What we do, in order

• The shortlist. Venues from a book of 107, filtered against your month, your guest count and the ceremony hour, with the capacity, rooms and per-plate range we hold on each. Walked on video for families abroad before anyone books a flight.
• The venue contract. The minimum guarantee per space and what the shortfall costs; the day rate and what it includes; the outside-vendor policy and any access fee; the build window the night before; the room block and its release date.
• The budget. Built line by line off real quotes rather than a template, held in a portal you can open from any timezone, with every vendor quote visible to you before it is signed.
• The design. Drawn before it is priced — the mandap or the stage, the aisle, the lighting, the flowers — and built by our own team for your wedding. The decor page takes this apart properly.
• The guest logistics. Arrival waves at Kochi, Trivandrum, Kannur or Kozhikode, the room block, the convoy to a backwater property, the schedule for the wedding week.
• The day. Our team on site for every function, from the overnight build to the last sitting of the sadya.

Three shapes the work takes

The fee is set by scope, so the scope is agreed before anything is quoted. In practice it lands in one of three places.

Full planning and design is the usual one: everything above, from the shortlist to the last function. Design and production only suits a family that has already taken the hall and booked the cook, and wants the wedding designed and built rather than assembled from a rental catalogue. Planning without design is the reverse — you have a designer or a family decorator you want to keep, and you want the venue, the budget, the vendors and the running of the day handled. A fourth shape, which is not a scope at all: one call and a shortlist, for a family who turns out not to need us. That costs nothing.

Kerala does not have one wedding

The state has several, and the planning changes with each. A Nair ceremony can be finished inside half an hour; a Kerala Brahmin wedding can run for hours and sometimes across two mornings, which decides what a venue has to permit. A Syrian Christian wedding is a church booking first and a venue booking second, with the reception non-vegetarian and the date constrained by Lent and the Nombu before Christmas. A Malabar Muslim wedding is frequently built around the caterer before the hall. We write each of these up as logistics rather than as ritual — Christian, Nair, Ezhava, Muslim and Kerala Brahmin — because the religious authority belongs with your family, and the schedule, the kitchen and the calendar belong with us.

The local team, and what that is worth

Hemanth C leads the Kerala team, and the studio is the Kerala arm of Wedvitez Planners Private Limited: your contract and invoice are issued in the legal entity's name, which is on the about page in full. Across the group, more than 500 weddings since 2016 and families in twelve countries, 300 of them living abroad. What that buys you in practice is a team that has stood in these venues, knows which auditorium admits an outside cook and which hotel will not, and can be at the property the week before rather than the day before.

When you should not hire us

If the wedding is at a hall your family has used for years, the cook is booked, the guest list is local and nobody is flying in, a planner adds cost without removing much work. Say so on the call and we will point you at the guides instead. Either way, two questions are worth answering before anything else: what your date does to availability, which is the calendar, and what the wedding is likely to cost, which is the rate tables.
