Everyone arrives up a ghat road
Wayanad sits on the plateau in the north-east, above the Malabar coast, and every guest reaches it by climbing. Kannur and Kozhikode are the practical airports and both leave a long road transfer at the end, so arrivals belong on the day before the wedding rather than the morning of it — particularly with an early muhurtham. In exchange you get forest and coffee-estate settings, air that is cool in the evening without being cold, and properties that are used to taking a whole wedding party rather than sharing the week with other guests.
Where do weddings happen in Wayanad?
Wayanad wedding venues cluster around Vythiri and Sulthan Bathery, on the plateau above Kozhikode in northern Kerala. 4 Wayanad resorts are on file with The Kerala Wedding Collective, with capacity, room counts and per-plate catering ranges where we hold them. Guest lists here run smaller than on the coast because room stock is limited and every guest arrives by road up a ghat, so most Wayanad weddings are planned as two- and three-night stays for a party the property can hold on its own.
Practically, the two questions to settle early are how many of your guests actually sleep on the property and what the wet-weather plan physically is, because a forest resort in the rain is a different event from one in February. Planning a wedding in Wayanad
- Getting there. Kozhikode (CCJ) and Kannur (CNN) are the practical airports, each followed by a ghat road up to the plateau.
- The ceremony booking. Resort weddings are the norm. For a temple, church or mahal ceremony off the property, agree the transfer times before the guest schedule is printed.
- The cook. Resort kitchens cook for the stay. For a Malabar menu or a sadya from a named cook, confirm access and kitchen space in writing.
