Munnar trades the backwaters' flat logistics for altitude, and the trade has terms. The roads are the first: winding climbs that turn a two-hour map distance into three and ask real consideration for elderly guests, which makes the transport plan matter more here than anywhere else in Kerala. The weather is the second: hill evenings run genuinely cool, mist is part of the scenery and sometimes part of the schedule, and any month outside the dry season wants the covered-first design from the rain guide. The reward is the third: tea gardens as a ceremony backdrop, plantation bungalows taken whole, and photographs no lawn in the plains can imitate.

The venue arithmetic runs smaller here by design: room stocks are modest, so the guest list either fits the property or splits across neighbouring stays, which the winding roads punish. Planning a wedding in Munnar

• Getting there. Cochin International Airport (COK) is the nearest, followed by a long climb by road. Plan arrivals for the day before the wedding.
• The ceremony booking. Most hill weddings are held at the resort itself. If a temple or church ceremony is planned in the plains, the drive decides the whole day's timing.
• The cook. Suppliers, extra kitchen staff and flowers travel up from the plains. Ask the resort what its kitchen can serve at the muhurtham hour.
